67 Volunteers; 21 Wedding Dresses Sold; and $8400 for Cancer Support
A Showcase of Gorgeous Gowns
On what seemed like the snowiest day of January (and that’s saying a lot!) the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor (CSC) was transformed into a gorgeous, bright space for our first-ever Trunk Show. The CSC is always safe, nurturing, and supportive place where families touched by cancer receive care. On this day, it served a second purpose. The Brides Project welcomed over 40 brides through our doors to shop for a dress that goes beyond its outward beauty, and offers a hand to those facing the daunting circumstances surrounding cancer.
Brides, Volunteers Support
Fundraising for Cancer
“We set a goal of raising $5000 at this event,” said Beth Foley, Development Coordinator for The Brides Project. “Despite the difficult travel conditions that day, we sold 21 gowns and raised over $8400. That is usually how many are sold in a month!”
Sixty-seven volunteers worked together to receive our new-found brides. “I’d like to express my most sincere thank you to all the volunteers and interns who helped make this event possible. Consultants, runners, photographers, makeup artists, marketing team, setup crew, gown transporters… it all came together beautifully and we couldn’t have done it without you! Beth conveyed.
“We were so honored to meet all the brides and families who braved the weather to come. I hope a good time was had by all, and I hope you know how much your contribution is appreciated by everyone at the Cancer Support Community.”
The dress is just one part of a new beginning. As 2014 unfolds, we hope to hear back from all the brides we met that day!
On Sunday, September 30th, The Brides Project participated in Ann Arbor’s Whimsical Occasions Wedding Event Show. Held in Weber’s hotel, many of our volunteers came out to help with pictures, meeting brides-to-be, dress fittings, etc. The show also included vendor tables with offerings such as flowers, catering, and photography. It was a one-stop-shop event for a variety of wedding needs!
The event was hugely successful and a number brides left very happy to have found a perfect dress. In addition to finding an amazing selection of gowns, one guest told us, “This is a cause that is very important to me.” We wish all these brides-to-be a wonderful wedding day, and are grateful to have met you.
Below are some pictures of our volunteers hard at work. Our consultants were available, as always, to walk brides the whole way through finding the dress to finalizing the purchase!

What could the Cancer Support Community do with $1,000 to help support it’s amazing services? Here’s an idea…
The Cancer Support Community has been working on an expansion to create a new center dedicated to supporting family and children. This new space has a therapeutic play room and an art therapy space, as well as a large exercise space. In this space we offer:
- groups for kids 4-12 who have cancer or who have a parent with cancer
- a group for teens who have cancer or who have a parent with cancer
- exercise classes for kids who have cancer or who have a parent or sibling with cancer
The $1,000 grant we’re hoping to win will be used to create a storage area for kids’ supplies. This is the last step needed to complete the new kids and family space!
As you can see, a lot of good can come from $1,000, so we’re asking for your help! The Bank of Ann Arbor has opened up voting on their Project Help contest. Through Project Help, Bank of Ann Arbor will award grants totaling $25,000 to fund much-needed local improvement projects, and as you may have guessed, the Cancer Support Community is up for the $1,000 grant!
You can help us win by going to the Bank of Ann Arbor Facebook page and voting daily. We can’t win without the support of the community so please spread the word – $1,000 can do a lot of good for the families and children that are supported through the Cancer Support Community!

We bet you’re all dying to hear how our kick off event for our Dress Drive went last Saturday at Art Van in Novi. Without making you hold your breath any longer, we’re delighted to say that we collected 10 dresses during the 2 hour event! Wow, just WOW!
One of our favorite stories from the day was a donation from one mother who had her younger daughter wear their dress donation into the store. The two went out and bought a dress to donate because the mother’s dress was too badly damaged for resale. How sweet are they?! Generosity such as theirs, touches a strong place in our heart and is a great reminder of why we love The Brides Project and all the amazing people we are able to meet!
This is the gorgeous display our volunteers put together for the event. Isn’t it lovely and inviting? Our volunteers certainly have an eye for style :)
This photo marks out 3rd donation within 20 minutes of the kick off! Thank you to the amazing ladies below!
Here’s Shannon from Channel 95.5 posing with Melissa, another dress donor! A great short, flirty style for a summer wedding.
Thank you to everyone who made our kick off event a success. We can’t wait to tally up the donations at the end of the month!
Our dress drive kicks off tomorrow at Art Van Furniture in Novi (just look at the gorgeous flyer our friends at Art Van made)! We hope we’ll see you, Saturday, May 5th from 1pm-3pm. As a reminder, volunteers will be on hand to collect donations (tax deductible forms will be available, too). For every donation on Saturday, you’ll have a chance to win 1 of 8 $50 gift cards to Lucido Fine Jewelry!
Were you listening to Channel 95.5 this morning? If so, you may have heard the exciting news about our May dress drive! Here’s the details:
The Brides Project is thankful to be partnering up with Channel 95.5’s Shannon Murphy and Art Van Furniture to host our first month long dress drive! All through May, Art Van will be accepting donations of wedding gowns which will be donated directly to The Brides Project.
Additional details can be found on Channel 95.5’s website, here.
Our kick off event is this Saturday, May 5th from 1pm-3pm at the Art Van store across from Twelve Oaks Mall. We’ll have our own volunteers on hand to collect donations and meet with anyone who stops in to see us! If you weren’t excited enough, Channel 95.5 has also partnered with Lucido Fine Jewelry to give away a chance for 1 of 8 $50 gift cards to women who donate their dresses at Art Van on the 5th! A chance at free jewelry gift cards and donating to a worthy cause – what could be better?
We’d love to see you on Saturday and hope that you’ll spread the word about our month long dress drive. The Brides Project wouldn’t be possible with the generous donations of dresses from brides – the more dresses we have, the better we able to continue to help support the Cancer Support Community.
Dreaming of your picture perfect wedding gown? There’s a good chance you’ll find it, and a great deal, at our Spring Sale! Our gowns are already discounted at least 50% from the original prices – and in this dream sale, many of them will be discounted even further.
We’ve also relocated to a temporary venue to make room for all our gorgeous dresses waiting for their perfect bride.
What’s unique about our bridal salon, that makes this sale even better? 100% of the money from dress purchases goes to the Cancer Support Community, a local Ann Arbor non-profit that provides support for those that have been touched by cancer.
So, what are you waiting for? You’ll feel amazing in your wedding dress. You’ll feel amazing about the price. And you’ll feel amazing that your purchase supports a really great cause.
